UPPER LAKE — Upper Lake High School”s wrestling team improved to 5-1 in the Coastal Mountain Conference standings with a 48-36 win over Kelseyville and a 68-10 victory over Point Arena Wednesday in Upper Lake.

Upper Lake 112-pounder Mike Diggs pinned Earl Gregg of Kelseyville for his 98th career win and later notched No. 99 with a forfeit victory against Point Arena. Randy Dickinson at 171 pounds also picked up a pair of wins with a pin of Kelseyville”s Troy Davis, who sustained an injury at the end of the match, and a 12-2 decision against a Point Arena wrestler.

In other contested matches between Upper Lake and Kelseyville, Thomas Esberg of Kelseyville pinned Willie Martinez at 125 pounds; Anthony Esberg of Kelseyville beat Emily Knispel by technical fall at 135 pounds; Tony Maravilla of Kelseyville pinned Charlie Coburn at 145 pounds; Andrew Pruett of Kelseyville pinned Brian Hatfield at 189 pounds; and Kelseyville”s Orlando Zarate pinned Sam Wurm in the heavyweight match.

Upper Lake picked up six forfeit victories.

There were only three contested matches between Upper Lake and Point Arena.

Upper Lake”s Rob Avery received forfeit wins at 140 pounds against Kelseyville and Point Arena to improve to 35-2 on the season.

The Cougars travel to Fort Bragg today for a make-up match against the Timberwolves.
