WILLITS — Just two days after an embarrassing 63-19 loss at Fort Bragg, the Middletown Mustangs regrouped to beat Willits 41-38 on Thursday during a North Central League I North varsity girls” basketball game at Willits.

“She was deadly hot,” Middletown coach Marnin Pyzer said of Kayla Welton”s shooting. “She hit a lot of open shots and her release was just perfect.”
Middletown”s defense closed down the inside against Willits and an Amber Preusser steal in the final seconds, just as the Wolverines were setting up for a 3-point shot, sealed the victory for Middletown.
“We did a nice job of shutting them down,” Pyzer said of the Wolverines, whose only league loss before Thursday came at the hands of undefeated Fort Bragg (7-0), the North champion.
