KELSEYVILLE — Tyler Hunt scored 27 points and teammate Johnny Harmyk just missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds as the Middletown Mustangs beat the Kelseyville Knights 51-42 in a North Central League I North varsity boys” basketball game on Friday night in Kelseyville.

The victory guarantees Middletown (3-4, 8-17) a berth in next week”s NCL I North postseason tournament at Kelseyville High School. Kelseyville (1-7, 11-13) wrapped up its North schedule and will miss that tournament. The Knights” season finale will be Tuesday at home against St. Vincent.

“We were hoping with a win that we might sneak in there, but we were pretty tight and shot horribly,” Kelseyville coach Scott Conrad said. “It wasn”t for a lack of effort. We played hard but were just 18-for-60 from the field.”

Middletown, coming off a poor effort in a loss to Willits on Thursday night, bounced back with a much better performance, according to Middletown coach Mike Mullin.

“We were coming off such a flat game against Willits I knew we couldn”t be any flatter,” Mullin said. “We were getting off some good shots and I was happy with that.”

Kelseyville made a late run at Middletown to get close but a 3-pointer by the Mustangs” Zack Strickler solidified Middletown”s lead.

“That was a big three he hit and it seemed to swing momentum,” Mullin said.

Hunt also had 11 rebounds.

Isaac McQueen”s 14 points paced Kelseyville and Mike Duman had eight.

Middletown hosts Lower Lake in its North finale on Tuesday.
