FORT BRAGG — Upper Lake High School”s wrestling team nailed down second place in the final Coastal Mountain Conference regular-season standings on Thursday with a 44-33 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves at Fort Bragg.
Willits won the regular-season title with a 7-0 mark.
The overall CMC title will be determined when the conference holds its championship Feb. 16 in Fort Bragg.
Not yet at full strength because of a flu bug that has weakened the team the last couple of weeks, the Cougars still had enough to get past the Timberwolves.
In those weight class matches that were contested, Fwee Chao won by pin at 103 pounds as did James Lolonis at 112 pounds. Also winning by pin were freshman Russell Dicksion at 125 pounds, Aaron Burns at 140 pounds, Rob Avery at 145 pounds and Ben Britton at 189 pounds.
Dickinson”s victory at 125 pounds secured the win for the Cougars.
Losing their matches were heavyweight Sam Wurm on a third-round pin and Randy Dickinson, who jumped out to a 13-0 lead at 171 pounds only to be pinned later in the match.
The Cougars join fellow CMC squads Willits, St. Helena and Fort Bragg at the Small School Championships today in Windsor.
