MIDDLETOWN — Just west of Dry Creek Road on Highway 175 early Sunday morning, a car accident claimed the life of a 41-year-old Middletown man according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The man”s name was not available at press time Monday, but CHP said the man was driving his Nissan west bound on Highway 175 at 12:25 a.m. at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle.
Coming out of a slight curve in the roadway, the vehicle veered to the right and struck a tree head-on, the force of impact spun the back of the vehicle to the right and it hit another tree.
CHP said that is the part of the accident they believe caused fatal injuries.
An ambulance was called, but CHP did not have information Monday as to whether the man was transported to a hospital. The man was wearing a seat belt. The conditions were clear and cool and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. CHP said it is likely alcohol was a factor in the accident, although that information is pending an investigation and toxicology results.
