There appears to be a serious problem of cats and kittens being dropped off at Kits Corner where they wind up on the back property alongside the Kennel Club. I know this because for a period of time I was homeless and my own cats were down there, so I went every morning to feed them. Some of these cats were very people-friendly.

For instance, one day, a grey, spayed tabby showed up. “Stormy” was people-friendly and came every morning for breakfast. Then a beautiful, petite black cat walked in one day, meowed for food, and I fed her too, every day. “Mama kitty” was so grateful for food she would rub against me and she loved petting. There was also the Tom cat and Mama kitty”s feral babies.

A couple of months ago, the maintenance man at Kits Corner told me someone dropped off a blue-point Siamese with kittens. The other day he says another cat with kittens were abandoned there. Recently that back property was sold and I was told the cats had to go. Mine are gone but there are still more cats up there who were fed since babies but they”ve scattered with tractor work going on there.

For this reason, I ask readers to please try and find homes for your cats or take them to Animal Control where they will have a chance to find homes. Yes, they may wind up being euthanized but in the case of a cat fed from a baby and never taught to hunt and who is starving, euthanasia is better than suffering starvation and slow death. I also know all cats don”t know how to hunt. When my cat Curly was lost on Kits property for 30 days in 2001, he came back to me emaciated.

I”m sure if you”re considering abandoning your pet you cringe at the thought of euthanasia but to me it is kinder than the long-suffering starvation they may experience. Please open your heart and show love and kindness to your pet and try to find it a home.
