CLEARLAKE — Rotary Club of Clearlake reaped the rewards of another successful event on Saturday when the club hosted its fifth annual Seafood Boil and Auction. The event was well attended both in representation and in number.
The Clearlake Senior/Community Center, where the event was held, was filled to near capacity with many distinguishable members of the community in attendance to support the efforts of the Rotary Club.
The Rotary Club of Clearlake welcomed members hailing from the local political community, city administration, officers of the Clearlake Police Department and Clear Lake area California Highway Patrol; educational leaders from Konocti Unified School District, Lake County Office of Education and Yuba Community College District; healthcare professionals from Adventist Health Redbud Community Hospital; dentists, veterinarians, realtors and countless members of the local business community. Rotary Club of Middletown also came out to support its fellow rotary club.
Once again, students from Carl? High School involved in Rotary”s Interact Club, proved to be helpful assets serving dinner and cleaning up after the event.
Along with live and silent auction, guests enjoyed the music of “The Class of ”63″ as they continued through the evening”s hefty agenda. Wine was poured courtesy of Shannon Ridge Winery.
Rotary Club of Clearlake”s mission is “Service Above Self.” This year”s event will help the club fund college scholarships for 10 high school seniors. Proceeds will also assist the club in providing 250 new dictionaries to third-grade students. The club plans to expand its dictionary program this year to include 250 dictionaries/thesauruses for ninth graders as well.
The Rotary Club of Clearlake was founded in 1973 and has made significant contributions to the community through the years. Some of the contributions include acting as the lead agency in creation of the Lower Lake High School athletic field, participation in the development of Austin Park, projects involving South Shore Little League, Big Brothers & Sisters, the senior center building and Anderson Marsh. Rotary is also involved in many international projects including the Festival of Brotherhood in Mexico.
