CLEARLAKE OAKS — Fire leveled a large barn on approximately two acres off of Sulfur Bank Road in Clearlake Oaks early Monday morning.
Firefighters from the Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD), Lake County Fire Protection District and Cal Fire were dispatched at 1:15 a.m. to the scene, bringing a total of five fire engines and more than 10 firefighters.
“It was well involved when we arrived. The entire structure was on fire from end to end,” Rich Haney said. Haney is an engineer with the NFPD Clearlake Oaks station, and was at the scene through the night. No one was inside, according to Haney, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to a house nearby on neighboring property, Haney said.
The blaze was contained approximately an hour after firefighters arrived, according to Haney.
Firefighters mopped up small fires in piles of rubble for six hours after the fire was out. Haney said the approximately 30-foot by 100-foot barn was being used as a storage shed.
“There was just all kinds stuff there, and there were little fires buried under rubble. It was completely full of stuff ? wood, car parts, stuff like that,” Haney said. A 1980 Corvette inside the barn was destroyed as well, Haney said, left unrecognizable after the blaze. “It was made of fiberglass, which just turns into goo,” Haney said.
“It doesn”t look like there was any foul play, but it”s still under investigation, as far as the cause,” Haney said. Haney added that an investigator from the NFPD Lucerne station was at the scene, and was expected to make a report.
