LAKE COUNTY — A crash in Middletown Monday night claimed the life of a Middletown woman whose name is not being released until her next of kin is notified, according to California Highway Patrol officer Adam Garcia.
The woman was driving a 1999 Dodge Intrepid south on Highway 29 just north of Spruce Grove Road in Middletown. According to a Tuesday CHP report, she drifted onto the shoulder of the road to her right and hit a raised asphalt curb. Trying to regain control of the Dodge, she crossed the southbound lane and steered back to her right. The CHP report says the Dodge over-corrected, causing it to spin in a clockwise into the northbound lane. An oncoming vehicle hit the truck”s left side at 55 miles per hour.
Nevada City resident Kathleen Edwards was driving a 2000 Isuzu Trooper, and did not have time to stop, according to the CHP report. The Dodge”s driver was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the accident. Edwards” passenger Judy Farmer, 67, of Clearlake Oaks, was taken to Redbud Community Hospital with a fractured pelvis, wrist and forearm, and was later moved to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Edwards suffered minor injuries.
A second accident involved a truck pulling a utility trailer that overturned and resulted in property damage only, according to the CHP traffic log Monday night.
The CHP is still investigating the cause of the collision, according to the report.
