What message does mascot controversy send?

I just had to write. I couldn”t keep reading these controversial letters without some kind of written response. So here it goes. What kind of message are we sending people? First, it”s the Kelseyville High mascot name change?

What must our kids think? Let me tell you. They have a lot to say. Like why are our adults spending so much time on this subject when we kids are out on the streets with nothing to really do? Why is it that when someone wants to do something for us ? something clean and safe ? it goes without support? Or it”s going to cost some outrageous cost to help our youth out?

Yet when individuals want to cause a stir in the community over something that”s been the same forever, it”s top agenda? Why are our role models so worried about what we call our mascot when at the same time we are facing losing many of our teachers? This can go on and on, if these adults choose, and why? Because they don”t want to apply themselves to real community action?

Now let”s get down to it. What”s the real message? We care more about what we are called than what we do for our neighborhood. Then to top it off, we advertise a school fundraiser, promoting “Safe and Sober Grad night” yet at the fundraiser we highlight adult beverages. Ugh, now I have seen it all.

So really, what”s the message people? Do you want to help our youth progress in a way that sets the stage for environmental progress? Want to see Lake County clean itself up? Take a look at the message.
