MENDOCINO — Jesus Fonseca had a season opener to remember for the Lower Lake High School varsity baseball team on Friday in Mendocino.
Fonseca went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs and he also pitched six strong innings for the victory, striking out 13, as the Trojans beat the Cardinals 12-2 in non-league action.
“He just dominated,” Lower Lake first-year coach Chris Emberson said of Fonseca. “He was definitely our leader today.”
Fonseca struck out the side in each of the first three innings.
Steven Arson and Steve Miller had two hits apiece for the Trojans (1-0) and Angel Macias went 1-for-2 with three RBIs.
The Trojans host Pierce Monday at 3:30 p.m.
