BAKERSFIELD — Lake County”s lone representative at the CIF State Wresting Championships made an early exit on Friday after losing his first two matches in the double-elimination competition at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield.

Clear Lake High School senior Tyler Hayes, the third-place finisher in the 103-pound division at last weekend”s North Coast Section Championships in Newark, lost to San Diego Section champion Bryan Grubbs in his first match and to Adam Magnusson, the fifth-place finisher in the Central Section, in the consolation bracket.

Despite his status as section champion, Grubbs had to win an outbracket match before facing Hayes in the opening round of the winner”s bracket. Grubbs beat Madison Gambrell of Clovis 7-0. Against Hayes, Grubbs won by a 19-4 technical fall.

Pushed into the consolation bracket, Hayes dropped a 7-4 decision to Magnuson, a freshman at Firebaugh High School in Lynwood.
