KELSEYVILLE — Led by German foreign exchange student Florian Kelder, the Kelseyville High School tennis team opened the season with a 3-2 victory over Rincon Valley Christian on Friday in Kelseyville.

Kelseyville won all three singles matches and lost twice in doubles.

Kelder beat Drew Bartholow 6-1, 6-0 in first singles. Stuart Davy beat Kevin Klein 7-5, 6-3 in second singles and Luke Kriken defeated Robert Raynor 6-1, 6-1 in third singles.

In doubles action, Johnny Rowland and Tommy Djounstrom of Rincon Valley beat John Don-Kincannon and David Ferrario 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 in first doubles. Because darkness was setting in after the second set, the teams substituted a third set with a points tiebreaker.

In second doubles, Mary Bartholow and Luke Sanders of Rincon Valley defeated Stephen McQueen and Glenn Mostin 6-0, 6-4.

“We lost five seniors to graduation, so we”re rebuilding,” Kelseyville coach Jeff McLaren said. “But we could surprise a few people.”

McLaren said Kelder has “played a lot of club tennis and is very good.”

Kelseyville is off until March 14 when it travels to Rincon Valley Christian.
