As an alumnus of KUHS I have been following the name change controversy. The bottom line in ” Indian” is how it is used and delivered. Used as a powerful and proud representative of a team, its use is respectful and honorable.

Used in a derogatory context with words like” kill” when referring to any cultural group, it is unacceptable. To be accused of referring to the Indians in an a disrespectful manner creates misunderstanding and anger.

Is it possible that changing the Indian name to Native American, some of the Indian history in Lake Co. will be lost? I am surprised that the Konocti Vista Casino has not built a Pomo Indian museum to educate visitors to Lake County at the entrance on Soda Bay Rd.
