CALISTOGA — Clear Lake won only one of three singles matches but swept the two doubles matches in a 3-2 tennis victory over the Calistoga Wildcats on Tuesday in Calistoga.

It was the season opener for Clear Lake and Rik Hayes, who begins his second stint as the Cardinals” head coach.

“We”re really young,” Hayes said of a squad that has no seniors and only two juniors. “I think overall we played real well. They”re all good kids.”

Clear Lake wins came in second singles, where Nate Secrest beat Ian Scerri 1-6, 6-2, 6-1; in first doubles, where Tony Velez and Patric Yates beat Amy Finney and Jordan Beal 6-4, 7-5; and in second doubles, where Claire Mansell and Hayden Gilbert beat Palo Solario and Alyson Fillion 6-0, 6-2.

Calistoga”s victories came in first singles, where Zack Smith beat K.C. White 4-6, 6-4, 6-0; and in third singles, where Jordan Ruiz beat Humberto Perez 6-1, 6-0.

“Two matches went to three sets and they were feeling it,” Hayes said. “We”re going to have to get in better shape.”

The Cardinals host Calistoga on Friday.
