UPDATED:

I would like to answer some of Dr. Russ Patterson”s statements in his March 6 “Letters to the Editor” to the Record-Bee about the Clearlake Riviera Association rules.

He implies that because we the homeowners don”t physically attend the association meetings that we don”t care about what goes on in our community. My other impression is that since we the homeowners don”t physically attend the meetings it gives the Board carte blanche to ignore us and vote however they please. I believe in both cases that he and the board are wrong. I believe that feeling is backed up by Patterson”s third paragraph in his March 6 letter.

Patterson wrote “The Association mission statement read, To protect, promote and enhance the property values of all homeowners who by title and deed are members of the association with all rights and responsibilities therein.”

In my opinion, getting rid of the security patrol, the golf course and swimming pool and the fishing pier, boat launch and park the board has broken the mission statement and reduced the value to all the homeowners here in the Rivieras. In this case my feeling is they ? the board ? should resign for breaking the very rules Patterson quoted.

If I did not care about our community I certainly would not bother to write this letter. One more thing in Patterson”s letter that felt like a threat to members was his referral “expect consequences” as though not going along with his point of view wouldn”t be good for those members. My feeling on that is that Patterson and the rest of the board are looking over the owners properties who oppose them for some kind of reason to fine or otherwise cause them trouble.

One more item is Patterson wrote the Riviera”s documents have served our members well. I believe that is a good statement that bypasses the fact that it”s the Riviera”s board of directors that have failed in their job.
