MIDDLETOWN — It”s surprising how easy baseball can be when you get pitching, hitting and defense all in the same game.

When that happens, you get just the kind of result the Middletown Mustangs achieved on Monday against the Cloverdale Eagles in a non-league varsity baseball game at Middletown.

Daniel Sallee pitched a complete game and struck out six, the Middletown defense backed him with error-free play, and the Mustangs banged out 13 hits in an 11-3 victory.

“I”m real proud of the guys, they did a good job,” Middletown coach Charles Russ said. “We hit the ball today and made no errors.”

Sallee”s effort on the mound didn”t hurt either.

“He was real solid,” Russ added.

Sallee also helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Eric Schenck led the Mustangs with three hits and Dane Larson and Ryan Johnson each had two hits and a RBI.

The Mustangs (4-1-1) host Tomales today at 4 p.m. The two teams met earlier this season in Tomales and the game ended in a 3-3 tie because of darkness.
