MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Mustangs left no doubt who the better team was on Tuesday as they beat the Tomales Braves 14-7 in a non-league junior varsity baseball game at Middletown.

The two teams tied 3-3 earlier this month in Tomales, a game called because of darkness. But there was more than enough daylight Tuesday as the Mustangs pounded out hit after hit against the Braves.

“We”re hitting the ball, being aggressive on the bases,” Middletown coach Charles Russ said. “The boys just played real well together.”

Eric Schenck went 3-for-5 with a triple and a RBI to spark the Middletown offense and winning pitcher Saul Preciado worked five innings for the victory, striking out five and walking none. Other leading hitters were Dane Larson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Brett Humphry, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Daniel Sallee, who went 2-for-4.

Middletown improved to 5-1-1.

In other junior varsity action Tuesday:

Clear Lake 6, Anderson Valley 4

At Lakeport, winning pitcher Ryan Richardson and relievers Ryan Grady and Bryan Edwards combined to strike out 10 as the Clear Lake JVs beat the Anderson Valley varsity squad.

Jamie Lopez went 3-for-4 with a RBI and Tyler Beets went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to spark Clear Lake”s offense. Lopez also scored a run on a suicide squeeze bunt laid down by Beets, who also beat the throw to first.

“It was a perfect bunt,” Clear Lake coach Chuck Mansell said.

Richardson worked the first five innings for the victory, striking out six.

“We did great, our pitching was really good,” Mansell said.

Clear Lake is 6-0.

Lower Lake 2, Cloverdale 1

At Lower Lake, Stephen Whitcomb tossed a four-hitter and struck out five as the Lower Lake Trojans edged the Cloverdale Eagles.

Cheto Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a double for the Trojans (1-3) and Rodrigo Zuniga had a single and scored one of Lower Lake”s runs.

“They played with a lot of heart,” Lower Lake coach Joe Mattos said. “They have a good attitude and are really doing well. I”m proud of them.”
