MIDDLETOWN — Once Middletown”s batters caught up to Vanessa Flores” fastballs, it was all Mustangs on Wednesday in a 10-4 non-league softball victory over the Geyserville Bronchos at Middletown High School.
“She”s fast, not super fast, but there”s not much movement on her pitches,” Middletown coach Lisa Rogers said of Flores, Geyserville”s top pitcher. “Once we got a chance to see her a few times we were able to time her a lot better.”
Middletown (2-2) snapped a 3-3 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and then pulled away from Geyserville, adding two more runs in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 10-3 lead.
First baseman Alicia Siri had four productive plate appearances for the Mustangs. She singled her first time up, walked to force in a run, doubled home two runs and bounced into a fielder”s choice that scored a run.
Winning pitcher Jen Emberson helped her own cause by going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. She allowed six hits, struck out five and walked two.
Flores struck out nine and walked four.
