KELSEYVILLE — While the singles matches were uneventful for the most part on Friday as the Kelseyville Knights and Cloverdale Eagles squared off in a Coastal Mountain Conference tennis match in Kelseyville, the doubles matches turned out to be three-set thrillers as Kelseyville went on to beat Cloverdale 4-1.
Dave Ferrario and Glenn Mostin of Kelseyville had their hands full while beating Brenda Quezada and Cody Trettin of Cloverdale 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) in second doubles. In first doubles, Zachary Hughes and Dima Tsepeoer of Cloverdale lost the first set but came back to beat Jon-Don Kincannon and Steve McQueen of Kelseyville 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
“The doubles were very exciting,” Kelseyville coach Jeff McLaren said. “It was fun.”
The next-best match was in third singles, where Kelseyville”s Luke Kriken beat Julia Wienke 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.
There was no such drama in the other two singles matches. Florian Kelder beat Fred Westenburg 6-0, 6-3 in first singles, and Stuart Davy defeated Andrew Jopson 6-1, 6-2 in second singles.
