LOMPOC — Though the weather was pleasant for the most part, fog early in Monday”s round reduced visibility to about 150 yards and made things a bit tougher on the Kelseyville High School golf team at the 41st Easter Classic at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc.

“There were a lot of lost balls,” Kelseyville coach John Berry said. “Balls thought to be in the fairways weren”t or couldn”t be found,” Berry added.

Kelseyville entered two three-man teams in the competition. The “A” team of Hipolito Perez, Jonathan Bridges and Nick Schaefer came in 19th out of 33 teams with a score of 264 on the par-72 La Purisma layout. Team “B” of Tyler Drake, Peter Wotherspoon and Cameron Blackburn came in 29th with 315.

“I thought Nick and Jonathan could have done better,” Berry said. “They both started slow but righted the ship.”

Perez led the Knights with a round of 83. Bridges was next at 89, including a 41 on the back nine, and Schaefer had 92, including a 43 on the back nine.

Tyler Drake led Kelsey-ville”s team “B” with 100, Wotherspoon had 105 and Blackburn had 110.

Colt Hoffman of Nipomo High School won low individual honors after beating Dustin Tygret of North Torrance High School in a one-hole playoff. Both men shot 73 in regulation.

The team title went to Royal High School of Thousand Oaks with 231. Clovis East was the runner-up with 234.

Kelseyville returns to action today in the Atascadero Tournament.
