KELSEYVILLE — Tommy Mingori”s second home run in two games, a three-run shot over the scoreboard in left field, turned out to be the one and only highlight for the Kelseyville Knights in a 13-3 non-league loss to the Ferndale Wildcats on Saturday at Lloyd Larson Field in Kelseyville.
The varsity baseball game was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
“They hit us real well,” Kelseyville coach Lou Poloni said of the Wildcats, who scored five runs in each of the second and third innings to go up 11-3.
Mingori”s blast gave the Knights a short-lived 3-1 lead.
“He”s a big, strong kid and that gave us some momentum until our three-error top of the second,” Poloni said. “It took the wind right out of us.”
All three of Kelseyville”s errors in the game came in the top of the second as Ferndale moved in front to stay at 6-3.
Kelseyville (6-5) has played 11 games in 19 days and Poloni said he is looking forward to a two-game-a-week schedule when the Knights can use a rotation of Mike Duman and Justin Lilly, their top two pitchers.
“Between Duman and Lilly I think we have a great one-two punch that we haven”t been able to exploit much (because of all the games we”ve played),” Poloni said.
Mike Davis worked the first two-plus innings for Kelseyville and took the loss.
Kelseyville plays at Clear Lake on Friday at 4 p.m.
