I recently attended a local school board meeting and was dismayed by the financial crisis in our schools. I am not a parent nor am I affiliated with our schools in any way, other than being a concerned community member. I recognize that these students are our future, and I”m not sure how we expect them to run our country someday if we are inadequately funding their programs, books and supplies.

I recognize we are in a budget crisis that extends beyond the schools, but I hope there are fellow community members out there who are similarly concerned by the massive budget cuts our schools are experiencing. Lakeport will be experiencing a $1.4 million reduction over the next 2 years and this is not unique. Schools all through our county and state are getting hit like this. When I inquired about making a donation, I was told every little bit helps. I urge fellow community members to make a donation to the school district in their neighborhoods.
