CLEARLAKE — Clearlake Code Enforcement is working diligently to clean up Lakeshore Drive. The department has stepped up its efforts, identifying 16 properties in need of maintenance and/or repairs.

The majority of the properties identified consist of retail locations including two restaurants. Four of the properties are listed as single-family dwellings; other properties consist of several vacant cabin units, occupied apartment building and a self-serve car wash.

“Lakeshore Drive is the gateway to our city and if we are going to clean this place up that”s where we need to start,” said code enforcement officials.

One case has been closed with demolition that occurred at 15140 Lakeshore Drive. The property had housed several cabins and a retail shop. Four additional cases have been closed with compliance. Compliance was met on property at 14150 Lakeshore Drive, with fence repair and paint; 14655 Lakeshore Drive with pressure washing of brick building; 14802 Lakeshore Drive with paint and repairs to exterior of building; and 14932 Lakeshore Drive with paint and repairs.

No compliance has been met on property at 14040 Lakeshore Drive, which also consists of several vacant cabins. The case has been ongoing since Oct. 24, 2007. Administrative penalties have maxed out at $2500 and the property will be going before the city council for abatement in the near future.

Minimal compliance has been made on property located at 14530 Lakeshore Drive. The property consists of a few retail shops and a trailer park in the rear. Several dilapidated and unsightly structures are in need of repair or demolition. Code Enforcement”s report also states that there is an unsafe plumbing leak in the back, fencing is dilapidated and there are two inoperative vehicles and trash and debris on the property. The property owner has made contact with the department; however, compliance has reportedly been minimal. Administrative penalties have been started.

A red-tag has been placed against the property at 14825 Lakeshore Drive, commonly known as Mario”s Lodge. According to Code Enforcement”s report, which was presented to the Clearlake City Council on Feb. 27, the structure was being used illegally as a single-family dwelling. Conditions were deemed unsafe and unsanitary. Furthermore, the fire department and the building department declared the structure to be a health and safety hazard. The building has reportedly been vacated and the property owner has begun to paint the exterior.

The other restaurant property under the eye of Code Enforcement is located at 15140 Lakeshore Drive. The building, formerly Denny”s and The Connection, has been vacant for several years. The structure was cited for being extremely weathered, deteriorated and unsightly. Repairs are needed; stucco is falling from overhangs. Graffiti is present on the walls. According to the report, the maintenance worker for the property has been contacted and repairs will reportedly be made prior to the compliance date.

The property owner of 14520 Lakeshore Drive is in the process of complying with signage and fencing repair. A follow up inspection is scheduled for property at 13924 Lakeshore Drive, which consists of a single family dwelling in need of repairs and maintenance.

Property owner of 14912 Lakeshore Drive is reportedly in the process of obtaining funds to paint the structure and make repairs as needed. The property consists of several occupied apartment units.

Property at 14560 Lakeshore Drive recently transferred ownership. According to the report, the new property owner has been in contact and will be making repairs and painting the structure soon.

An extension was granted on property located at 14572 Lakeshore Drive. The property owner has been given until March 28 to make the necessary repairs and paint the building.

An extension was granted on property at 14635 Lakeshore Drive as well. The property was cited for bushes growing along the roadway creating an obstruction to traffic. The owner has reportedly done some trimming; however, if he cuts the bushes back too fat at this time, they would die off.

The property owner at 13760 Lakeshore Drive is reportedly in the process of making repairs and painting. Roofing is to be replaced this spring and vehicles will be moved after repairs are made, according to the report.
