Residents of Clearlake can expect to see 450 balloons floating in the sky Saturday morning when Southshore Little League celebrates its 50th anniversary. The balloons will be released by players during the league”s Opening Day ceremony, to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Redbud Ballpark in Clearlake.

Opening Day ceremonies will include introduction of teams and coaches along with board members and league volunteers. Players and parents will take their respective pledges as they welcome another season of ball-playing with Southshore Little League.

Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain has been invited to throw out the first pitch of the 2008 season and School Resource Officer Carl Miller will have the honor of catching it.

T-shirts commemorating the league”s 50th anniversary will be available for purchase during the event.

Southshore Little League is looking forward to a fun and exciting season. “A Day Of Fun For Everyone II” is currently being planned for Saturday, May 3. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be packed with family-fun activities such as a dunk tank, bounce house, face painting, relays and throwing competitions and other children”s games. The event will also include a variety of raffle opportunities and a barbecue lunch.

“A Day Of Fun For Everyone II” is a fund-raising event for Southshore Little League and its participants. Due to the success of last year”s event, the league is extending an invitation to other non-profit organizations, clubs and businesses to join in this year”s day of fun. Booth spaces are available for non-profit organizations for $55; other clubs and organizations are $95; retailers can participate for a $125 booth fee.

“In our first year hosting this event, an estimated 1,000 people were in attendance throughout the day. Due to the success of last year, better advertising and more booths, this year is sure to be even bigger and better,” said Lee Lambert, league president. “This event is a great way for your business, club or organization to earn money. All moneys raised by Southshore Little League go directly toward our league. Any moneys you raise go directly toward your business, club or organization. Plus, you are sure to have a great time. This is a great way to get involved with our community and show your support for our youth.”

Southshore Little League reserves the right to refuse vendor space depending on booth type, items or services offered. Absolutely no alcohol, tobacco or drug merchandise, paraphernalia, signage or innuendo. All vendors must provide own source of power and/or water unless otherwise approved by Southshore Little League prior to the date of the event.
