Hello and the sky is not falling. However, the Record-Bee”s recent article by Terry Knight about the mussels and the sky is falling approach needs to be researched with other lakes which have had the problem for seven to ten years.
Their results on how to live with mussels, get rid of some and what really happens after a period of time, will be enlightening to everyone that reads Terry”s column.
I lived on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana for 13 years. We went through the “Mussels are coming; they are here; and oh my, what do we do?” Well, you ask, study and then do something.
The fish are still in the lake. The lake is cleaner, and the mussels have to be cleaned out of all pipes which touch or use any lake water.
Please call Tri-County Fish and Wildlife area office and check station at 574-834-4461, which is the fish and game equal of the California folks for Kosciusko County in which Lake Wawasee and Lake Syracuse reside.
Photosynthesis of plant life begins to be effective at 18 inches (surface to seed) and that is the most important reason Clearlake has its flower each year. If we would stop allowing Yolo County to take 6 to 9 feet of our water each year, our “weeds” would greatly reduce in quantity.
So, please have Terry review, and I ask the Record-Bee to review what ever he writes about Clear Lake, which can reflect on the economics of Lake County. I am sure the Chamber of Commerce and the real estate folks did not appreciate his article. However, there are those that would love to see property values reduced on Clear Lake.
I will watch with interest at to how the Record-Bee will approach the remedy to Terry”s terrible article. Some of the “Pros” quoted by Terry are just professors that probably have never fished on Clearlake. Many times the “Pros” go by the book instead of observing what “Mother Nature” really makes happen.
