LAKEPORT — An over-correction on Hill Road south of Sutter Lakeside Hospital sent a Lakeport teenage female to the hospital and blocked Hill Road briefly Friday afternoon.

A black 1999 Volkswagen Jetta the 16-year-old was driving south on Hill Road was sitting where it stopped in the northbound traffic lane. The accident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m.

“She was driving southbound when she drifted to the right. She overcorrected, and that caused her vehicle to shoot left, or east, and she climbed the embankment up and then her vehicle rolled back into traffic,” California Highway Patrol officer Kevin Domby said.

The dirt and grass embankment was at an approximately 50-degree angle. The Jetta”s tire tracks appeared about 8 feet up the side. Domby said the teen was traveling at about 60 miles per hour; the speed limit on Hill Road is 55.

“She was not ejected, but got herself out, and was lying on the shoulder of the road when we got here. She wasn”t complaining of pain,” Domby said. The teen was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, about a mile north on Hill Road, as a precautionary measure because of the force of the impact, according to Domby.

The friction of the slide downhill pulled the rubber on the Jetta”s front tires from the metal rims. As a CHP officer backed the car to a position to be towed, metal was heard scraping against the pavement.

Two CHP units were at the scene. Two Lake County Sheriff”s patrol cars were also at the scene for traffic control. Only the southbound traffic lane was open while officials waited for a tow truck to arrive and remove the Jetta from the road.
