UPPER LAKE — Ferndale broke open a close game with a five-run seventh and beat the Upper Lake Cougars 11-5 in the consolation championship game of the Rincon Valley Tournament on Saturday in Upper Lake.
The game was moved from Doyle Park to the Cougars” home field because of a scheduling crunch at the Santa Rosa field.
Upper Lake (5-6) led 4-1 after two innings and 5-4 after four innings. Ferndale pulled even with a run in the top of the fifth and moved ahead 6-5 with a run in the sixth.
Devin Callen, the second of five Upper Lake pitchers, worked two innings and took the loss. He struck out one and walked four.
Both teams had 10 hits and made three errors in the game.
Callen, Joe Barnes, Jayce Meri and Brandon Bills each had two hits for the Cougars. Meri and Bills also knocked in runs.
On defense, Upper Lake outfielder Mike Cox threw out a runner at the plate to complete a 7-2 double play.
The Cougars host the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in North Central League I interlock action today at 4 p.m.
