UKIAH — The “sophomore silent assassins” is the moniker Kelseyville High School softball coach Greg Giusti has assigned to his 10th-grade triumverate of Jillian Allen, Ashley Mueller and Sara Johnson.

“They”re all quiet but they”re fierce competitors,” Giusti said of the talented trio, all of whom played a major role in Kelseyville”s 6-4 victory in nine innings over the Ukiah High School junior varsity squad on Monday in Ukiah. “They were determined not to lose that game.”

Allen pitched six innings in relief of starter Casey Bowlin to notch the victory. She struck out five and walked none after Bowlin struck out four and walked none the first three innings.

Ashley Mueller”s two-run triple in the top of the ninth scored Monique Santana and sister Amanda Mueller to snap a 4-4 tie.

Sara Johnson, the Knights” catcher, threw out three runners trying to steal second.

Katie Davis” two-run homer to deep left field in the top of the sixth gave Kelseyville a 4-2 lead that stood up until the bottom of the seventh.

Kelseyville (4-4) hosts Clear Lake (7-3) today at 4 p.m.
