David Petty”s incredible April Fools Day letter to the editor (Record-Bee, April 1) would reach back nine years to blame the Clinton administration for our country”s current economic woes. Hello?
Clinton”s presidency produced a budget surplus of $526 billion, while Bush”s current presidency has produced a projected budget deficit of $632 billion ? a $1.2 trillion difference.
Indeed, starting back with President Kennedy in 1961, the Congressional Budget Office shows that 20 years of Democratic administrations have produced an average surplus of $25 billion/year, while 28 years of Republican administrations have produced an average deficit of $32 billion/year.
So much for the myth of Republicans as fiscal conservatives and Democrats as fiscal liberals. So much for blaming this recession on Democrats. Not even.
Do the math, Mr. Petty. Your Republicans, with their tax-less (especially corporations and the wealthy) and spend-more practices have turned America into the world”s largest subprime debtor. Let”s just hope the Chinese communists don”t foreclose on us.
