PETALUMA — St. Vincent collected seven of its 11 hits during a 10-run second inning and went on to beat Middletown 11-0 in a North Central League I interlock varsity baseball game on Tuesday in Petaluma.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

“My guys played hard, didn”t make mental mistakes, didn”t make physical mistakes, so I can live with that,” Middletown coach Mitch Tucker said. “St. Vincent just had hit after hit in that (second) inning. That”s a good team.”

Middletown (5-5) avoided a no-hitter when losing pitcher Dylan Galusha smacked a line-drive single just over the St. Vincent second baseman”s head in the top of the fifth.

Middletown, a 14-0 loser to St. Vincent at Middletown last month, travels to Cloverdale on Friday.

In other action Tuesday:

St. Helena 16, Lower Lake 6

At Lower Lake, the Lower Lake Trojans scored all six of their runs in the first three innings but committed too many physical and mental errors in the late innings as the St. Helena Saints pulled away for an easy win in NCL I interlock action.

“I just don”t understand it,” Lower Lake coach Chris Emberson said of the six errors committed by Lower Lake. “We work on all of that stuff in practice but when it comes to games, I don”t know what it is. Maybe we”re nervous.”

Losing pitcher Jesus Fonseca went 2-for-2 with two runs and a RBI as Lower Lake fell to 2-7. Angel Macias went 1-for-3 with a double.

Fort Bragg 14, Upper Lake 3

At Upper Lake, Fort Bragg broke open a 2-2 game with seven runs in the top of the third, four scoring on a pair of Upper Lake errors, and the Timberwolves beat the Cougars in NCL I interlock play.

Losing pitcher Jayce Meri went 2-for-2 with a triple, scored a run and drove in two others as the Cougars fell to 5-7.

Softball

St. Vincent 9, Middletown 5

At Petaluma, trailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, the St. Vincent Mustangs scored four times to take the lead for good in NCL I interlock action against the Middletown Mustangs.

Nikeedra Davis went 2-for-3 with a double and a tape-measure home run to right field, a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning that cut St. Vincent”s lead to 6-5. Alicia Siri also went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Middletown (2-3).

Losing pitcher Jen Emberson went the distance, striking out nine and walking three.

Fort Bragg 8, Upper Lake 0

At Upper Lake, Fort Bragg scored six times in the first inning and went on to shut out the Upper Lake Cougars in NCL I interlock action.

Upper Lake reliever Jackie Lovrin pitched six strong innings, allowing only two seventh-inning runs.

“She did awesome,” Upper Lake coach Kelly Coburn said.

Rebecca Grupe had two of the Cougars” six hits.

The Cougars are 0-3.

St. Helena 12, Lower Lake 10

At Lower Lake, Darlena White went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, but the Lower Lake Trojans lost in eight innings to the St. Helena Saints in NCL I interlock action.

Christine Powers and Ashley Willard each had two hits and a RBI for Lower Lake (0-7) and Stefanie Mederos and Katherine Dahneke each had a double and a RBI.

Kristen Garcia pitched all eight innings for Lower Lake. She struck out nine and walked five.

Tennis

Cloverdale 4, Clear Lake 1

At Lakeport, the Clov-erdale Eagles came within a second-doubles victory by Clear Lake of sweeping the Cardinals in Coastal Mountain Conference tennis action.

Clear Lake”s Patrick Yates and Claire Mansell prevented a Cloverdale sweep by beating Dima Sepeler and Julia Wiencke 6-3, 0-6, 6-3 in second doubles.

“Yates and Mansell played really well,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said.

K.C. White lost 6-3, 6-2 in first singles, Nate Secrest fell 6-2, 6-1 in second singles, Hayden Gilbert dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision in third singles, and Tony Valdez and Humberto Perez lost 6-0, 6-0 in first doubles.

Kelseyville 4, Middletown 1

At Middletown, in a rematch of last year”s top two CMC teams, Kelseyville beat defending conference champion Middletown 4-1.

“We lost, but we played about as well as we could,” Middletown coach Marc Morita said. “They”re very good.”

Middletown”s one victory came in No. 2 doubles where Zoe Everett and Jeanine Zolczynski rallied to beat David Ferrario and Glenn Mostin 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

“They could have hung their heads, but they stayed positive and ended up winning,” Morita said of Everett and Zolczynski.

Evan Carpenter and David Koeppel of Kelseyville beat Ryan Bower and Doug Quinones 6-4, 7-5 in first doubles.

Kelseyville won all three singles matches. German foreign exchange student Florian Kelder beat Will Phelps 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, Stuart Davy defeated Aaron Turner 6-1, 1-0 (injury forfeit) in No. 2 singles, and Luke Kriken rallied past Tyler Madsen 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 3 singles.

“Flo is not only an excellent player but he”s a terrific person,” Morita said. “Kelseyville”s really lucky to have him.”
