WILLITS — Two young tennis teams squared off Wednesday in Willits and it was the Clear Lake Cardinals coming away with a 5-0 win in Coastal Mountain Conference action.

“It was good for these guys to get a victory like that,” Clear Lake coach Rik Hayes said.

Four contested matches were decided in straight sets. Willits forfeited in No. 3 singles because it didn”t have enough players.

In other singles action, K.C. White beat Anton O”Hanlon 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while Nate Secrest beat Lorenzo Rodriguez 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Tony Valdez and Hayden Gilbert were 6-2, 6-0 winners over Rona Jergensen and Leah Calon in first doubles, and Claire Mansell and Patrick Yates beat Jess Craighead and Whitney Briggs 6-2, 6-4 in second doubles.
