LOWER LAKE — Konocti Unified School District may increase its developer fees to a new amount permitted by the state.
“State law provides that school districts may charge developer fees in the amount established by the state,” according to Assistant Superintendent Cliff Lantz. “The state has set the amount of the developer fees low enough so that the developers pay a fee that reflects only a portion of the actual impact of development on the school district. The remainder of the cost of development is covered by state bond funds. However, a school district is not eligible for state bond funds if it does not charge developer fees provided by state law.”
A developer fee plan accompanying Lantz”s report states that residential development fees were previously set by the state at $2.63 per square foot. The state has approved a new rate of $2.97 per square foot of new residential construction.
In the case of new commercial or industrial construction, the state has set the rate at 47 cents per square foot.
The school board held a public hearing on Wednesday, April 2. There were no public comments.
A resolution will come before the board on Wednesday, April 16. If approved by the board it will take effect after 60 days from the date of adoption.
