CALISTOGA — A six-run rally almost turned into a possible game-winning rally on Wednesday afternoon as the Lower Lake Trojans, trailing 11-4 entering the seventh inning, scored six times before losing to the Calistoga Wildcats 11-10 in a wild non-league softball game at Calistoga.
After scoring six times in the seventh to cut Calistoga”s lead to a single run, the Trojans (0-8) had the bases loaded with one out. A Lower Lake batter hit a blooper that appeared to be headed into center field, but the Wildcats” shortstop caught the ball and then stepped on second base for a game-ending double play.
“We had six hits and a couple of walks in the inning,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said of the seventh. “We”re battling back.”
Mirella Valencia went 3-for-5 to lead the Trojans at the plate. Christine Powers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Danielle McKay and Aleshia Barnard each went 2-for-4 with a RBI, and Stefanie Mederos went 2-for-3.
Losing pitcher Kristen Garcia went the distance, striking out four and walking four.
