MIDDLETOWN — Coming off a hard-fought 4-1 loss to Kelseyville on Tuesday, the Middletown High School tennis team bounced back with a 4-1 victory over the Clear Lake Cardinals in Coastal Mountain Conference action on Friday in Middletown.
“We needed that,” Middletown coach Marc Morita said. “We needed a little rebound after Kelseyville.”
Middletown won all three singles matches, including a forfeit to Tyler Madsen at No. 3 singles, and split in doubles.
Winners for the Mustangs were Will Phelps, 6-1, 6-2 over K.C. White, in No. 1 singles; Aaron Turner, 6-0, 6-0 over Josh Blair, in No. 2 singles; and Zoe Everett and Jeanine Zolczynski, 6-3, 6-3 over Claire Mansell and Patrick Yates, in No. 2 doubles.
“They”re solid,” Morita said of his No. 2 doubles team of Everett and Zolczynski. “They”re great players and fun to watch.”
Clear Lake”s Tony Valdez and Hayden Gilbert beat Ben MacDonald and Chase Mannisto 6-2, 6-4 in No. 1 doubles.
Middletown returns to action Monday at Cloverdale. Clear Lake doesn”t play again until April 15 at home against Kelseyville.
