LOWER LAKE — Kenna Ruiz missed a perfect game by the margin of a walk as Cloverdale shut out the Lower Lake Trojans 10-0 in a North Central League I interlock varsity softball game on Monday in Cloverdale.
Ruiz, only a sophomore, did get a no-hitter. She struck out nine with just the one base on balls.
“She seemed to be hitting the corners and she had good movement on the ball,” Lower Lake coach Tim Sherrell said.
The Trojans (1-9) turned in one of their better efforts on defense as they committed just three errors behind pitcher Kristen Garcia. Second baseman Danielle McKay gloved a line drive with the bases loaded to save two runs.
Lower Lake also received solid play in the field from third baseman Aleshia Barn-ard and shortstop Mirella Valencia, according to Sherrell.
The Trojans travel to Petaluma on Friday to play St. Vincent at 4 p.m.
