KELSEYVILLE — On a day when both pitchers allowed six hits, it was the six walks issued by Kelseyville pitching that were the difference as Healdsburg beat the Kelseyville Knights 6-2 in a non-league softball game Wednesday afternoon in Kelseyville.

Losing pitcher Casey Bowlin struggled with her control, walking the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, and the Greyhounds went on to score all three runners to snap a 2-2 tie and take a 5-2 lead.

“She was nibbling at the corners and missing,” Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti said. “She was not getting the calls.”

Winning pitcher Taylor Dericco went the distance while striking out seven and walking two.

“She definitely got stronger as the game progressed,” Giusti said of Dericco, who blanked the Knights (6-6) after the second inning.

One of Healdsburg”s hits was a memorable one as Mary Kate Peterson teed off on a Bowlin pitch in the top of the fifth and hit it some 230 feet through a brisk wind and well over the fence in left field, which is 195 feet from homeplate.

“She tagged it,” Giusti said.

Kelseyville”s Sara Davis nearly left the yard in the second inning but settled for a RBI double. Ashley Mueller went 2-for-3 for the Knights.
