I hope the readers can stand one more letter about the mascot issue, but after reading the many comments, I feel the need to add my own input. I am a graduate of Kelseyville High School, class of 1942, and as I recall the mascot name was chosen because the Indian was part of the history of the region.
The intent was to honor them, and there certainly was no intent to embarrass or put them down. The Indian warrior was brave, resourceful, persistent, etc. and mascots are usually chosen with similar characteristics. Consider the mascots of some of the neighboring towns: Timber wolves, Wolverines, cougars, Trojans, etc. A better way to have settled the issue would have been by vote of the citizens of the KUSD.
