LOWER LAKE — One old baseball saying states that if you”re not hitting the ball, it”s like you”re not even there, and Lower Lake High School varsity baseball coach Chris Emberson knows that feeling all too well.
On Wednesday, the Trojans again struggled mightily at the plate, getting just one hit in a six-inning, 11-0 non-league loss to the Healdsburg Greyhounds at Lower Lake High School.
“We can”t hit the ball,” Emberson said. “And if you can”t hit the ball, it”s hard to win games.”
The Trojans” lone hit was a clean single up the middle by Stephen Whitcomb in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lower Lake had only three other baserunners, all the result of walks, and the Trojans advanced just one runner as far as second base.
“We had one runner in scoring position all day,” Emberson said.
Losing pitcher Jesus Fonseca went four-plus innings on the mound, allowing five runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked three. Reliever Jake Sanders allowed the final six Healdsburg runs, three each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Lower Lake, now 3-11, opens its North Central League I North schedule Friday with a home game against Fort Bragg at 4 p.m.
