LAKEPORT — This is one game that won”t find its way into Clear Lake High School”s softball time capsule.
St. Vincent built a 7-0 lead and went on to beat the error-prone Cardinals 9-6 in a North Central League I South battle for first place on a rainy Tuesday in Lakeport.
Clear Lake (1-1 South, 12-5 overall) committed a season-high eight errors against St. Vincent (2-0), which now owns wins over its two South rivals, Clear Lake and Cloverdale.
“They”re definitely in the driver”s seat,” Clear Lake coach Gary Pickle said. “They”re a tough team.”
Clear Lake scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to make it close.
“We made a game of it at the end, but they basically kicked our butts most of the game,” Pickle said.
Candy Diener went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Cardinals, who out-hit the Mustangs 10-9.
