KELSEYVILLE ?Picture this, 100 little girls donning oversized dresses and heels that belong to their mothers?laughing, throwing their heads back with juvenile joy.
Fast forward 20, 30 maybe even 70 years. The tea is wine the girls are teachers, business owners, clerks and a one self-proclaimed domestic goddess.
A wildly successful “Girls Just Wanna Have Wine” event was held Friday night at the Wildhurst Tasting Room in downtown Kelseyville.
More than 100 women gathered to celebrate wine, food and friendship. The theme for the evening was “Best Earring While Drinking Wine.”
Earrings ranged from bizarre to beautiful. Pam Hanreich of Kelseyville Lumber proudly displayed live worms on her ears accompanied by bobbers and lures as a reflection of Lake County”s fishing culture.
The night”s winning categories included:
Best representation of agriculture in Lake County ? Susan Krones of Lakeport, for her very large clusters of dangling grapes.
Best representation of Wildhurst”? Judy Lubich of Lakeport, for handcrafted earrings baring her own design of the Wildhurst logo.
Best vintage bling? Kristi Brown of Tulip Hill Winery, for wearing her mother”s very large and sparkling, diamond studs.
Most outrageous ? Jill Shaul of Upper Lake, sporting real wild turkey feet.
Additionally, earrings worn by Dotty Garvey, a transplant from New York, began a rousing discussion with Theresa Lyndall, Lori Rooney and Pat Mayer who were all wearing the same brand? “Lunch on the Ritz” ? a bonding moment.
“This is our fifth event like this in two and a half years, others were best shoes, best hats etc. The events are fabulously attended, ” Valerie Ramirez, Wildhurst tasting room manager said.
Wildhurst wine swished in glasses, while wraps, fruit and an array of treats completed the bright, inviting, inexpensive gathering. For $5 at the door a women”s -only event honored the women of Lake County ? In each face the child at the tea party visible.
