CLEARLAKE — Wild About Books welcomes poet and author Clive Matson for a reading of Chalcedony”s “First Ten Songs,” 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, at 14290 Olympic Drive in the City of Clearlake.

Matson writes from the itch in his body. Women are his most powerful influence and Chalcedony (cal-SAID-”n-nee) has written more than 80 songs. Join Wild About Books and listen to a gifted poet in word and spoken form. Book signing to follow.

Matson returns the next day on Saturday, May 10, to conduct a “Let the Crazy Child Write” workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will learn about the structure of fiction and, indeed, of most writing by looking at these very short stories.

There will be an introduction Saturday morning followed by spontaneous writing and supportive feedback sessions in the familiar synergetic style with a break for pot-luck lunch.

These events are supported by Poets and Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation. You can find more information about Clive Matson online at www.matsonpoet.com/biogcm.html.

For an updated list of times and dates for upcoming events, stop by Wild About Books or call 994-WILD (9453).
