LAKEPORT — The Clear Lake High School tennis team threw a scare Middletown”s way on Wednesday, but the visiting Mustangs held on to edge the Cardinals 3-2 in the Coastal Mountain Conference tennis finale for both teams at Lakeport.
Middletown picked up wins in first singles as Will Phelps beat K.C. White 6-1, 6-1; in third singles, where Aaron Turner defeated Josh Blair 6-2, 6-3; and in second doubles, where Zoe Everett and Jeanine Zolczynski beat Humberto Perez and Patrick Yates 6-0, 6-4.
Clear Lake notched victories in second singles, where Nate Secrest beat Tyler Madsen 6-3, 6-2, and in first doubles, where Hayden Gilbert and Tony Valdez defeated Ben MacDonald and Chase Mannisto 6-4, 6-2.
Players from both teams return to action today in the opening rounds of the CMC Championship Tournament at Konocti Harbor Resort & Spa.
The tournament runs through Friday.
