The City of Clearlake is stretching its dollars to pave as much roadway as possible. The city”s current road rehabilitation project has been expanded to include several additional sections of roadway improvements.
In March, the city council authorized staff to award a bid of $1,321,185 to Central Valley Engineering and Asphalt to rehabilitate parts of Lakeshore Drive, Olympic Drive and Old Highway 53. Awarding of the bid left approximately $1.4 million in the project”s fund. Because a portion of the money was allocated through Prop 1 funds, the money must be used or returned to the state. “If we don”t spend it we have to give it back,” City Administrator Dale Neiman told the council at its April 24 regular meeting when he asked for authorization to expand the project.
Based on direction from CalTrans, the revised project includes road rehabilitation in the area of Burns Valley Road, from the senior/community center to Olympic Drive and Old Highway 53 from Lakeshore Drive to State Route 53. The project will then proceed north on Lakeshore Drive from the intersection at Old Highway 53 through Park Street and continuing to Modoc Street.
“To stretch those dollars that far, you”ve just made a lot of people happy,” Mayor Curt Giambruno told Neiman during discussion of the item.
Central Valley Engineering and Asphalt began construction on the project on April 21. Traffic control measures have been put in place in order to ensure the safety of the workers as well as the traveling public. Citizens do have access to their homes or businesses during construction. Central Valley asks that travelers use alternate routes when possible. If there are no alternate routes, it may take 10 to 15 minutes to get to your destination. Emergency vehicles always have immediate access.
No parking signs have been placed on streets within the project area. All trailers, cars, boats, RVs, etc. must be moved by the date and time posted on the barricade. Any vehicle or other not moved will be towed or moved at the owner”s expense.
The project is expected for completion in August.
