COLUSA — Freshman pitcher Tiffany Friel won both ends of Colusa”s doubleheader sweep of Kelseyville in non-league softball action on Thursday in Colusa.
Friel tossed a three-hitter and struck out 12 in the first game, an 8-0 victory by the Redskins, and she worked three innings in relief in game two as Colusa rallied from a 7-0 deficit to win 8-7.
Colusa (21-7) is the Sacramento Valley North League champion.
Both teams played their starters in game one and their reserves for most of game two. But when Colusa fell behind 7-0, the Redskins re-inserted their starters into the game and rallied with four runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.
“It was a chump move,” said Kelseyville coach Greg Giusti, who stuck with his reserves the entire way. “I have confidence in my kids.”
Allyson Brown went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in game two for Kelseyville (8-10) and she also had one of the Knights” three hits in game one. Ty Van Housen went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in game two.
