NICE — “Youth Writes” recently concluded its warm-up venues around Lake County. The participants are now ready to join together and perform their original poetry at Lake County Land Trust”s Art and Nature Show.

This annual event will be held on Saturday, May 3, at the Rodman Slough Preserve. The “Youth Writes” poets will take the stage at 11 a.m.

Following the performance there will a youth poetry open mic open to anyone under the age of 22.

During April, the “Youth Writes” poets read at local coffee shops, bookstores and community centers throughout Lake County. Last year”s “Youth Writes” poets who will be returning include Sarah, Morgen, Arthur and Rachael.

Sarah, age 12, is a published poet. In her poetry, Sarah shares her Native American roots from the point of view of a young person growing up in present day America.

Morgen has been appearing at open mics and has been honing her performance skills and discovering the power of the spoken word.

Since his appearance at the Art and Nature Show last year, Arthur, age 10, also a published poet, has spent countless hours volunteering with the Lucerne chapter of Friends of Locally Owned Water and Lucerne Community Water Organization.

Rachael is a gifted writer and loves to perform her poetry for an audience. This year Rachael was chosen to represent Lake County in the National Poetry Out Loud competition in Sacramento. Her poetry can be found on the Lake County Art Council Web site.
