KELSEYVILLE?The Merritt Road Bridge in Kelseyville over Kelsey Creek was dedicated on Friday to “the men and women of our community who served courageously and unselfishly in the defense of our nation,” according to the Lake County Board of Supervisors hand-out supplied at the event.
The project was funded by a combination of state and federal transportation revenues. The major portion, 87 percent, of the funds were supplied by the Federal Highway Administration”s Bridge Replacement Program.
According to history, the area where the bridge now stands was a low-water crossing in the 1920s that was constructed each year to provide stream crossings during low flows. This crossing washed out annually.
In 1985 a concrete-surfaced low-water crossing was constructed, as per a request by the Kelseyville Fire District.
Though the bridge was opened to traffic in December, the official dedication took place Friday.
