LAKEPORT — Ron Connor of Redwood Valley won the modified main event and Scott Sabol set a track record during qualifying and went on to win the feature race on Saturday night at the Lakeport Speedway in Lakeport.
In other action Saturday, George Abella held off Mike Rose and Roman Rose to win the bomber main event and “Cadillac” Pat Spurling created his own personal smoke screen to win the Burn-Out contest.
Modifieds
Track officials ordered a lap-20 single-file restart after Justin Potter, who was running seventh, was sent to the back of the pack for blocking. Connor strung the field out over the second half of the race and took the checkered flag in front of Mark Marek, Gary Lowblad, Danny Bishop and Mike Doss.
Marek posted the fast time during qualifying for the second week in a row at 12.632 seconds.
Street stocks
Try as he may, Andy Vander Veer couldn”t catch Sabol over the final 10 laps of the street stock main. After struggling in the early going, Vander Veer surged back, passing Jerry Crapo, Kevin Waycik and Robert Byers to take over second place with 10 laps remaining.
Sabol crossed the finish line in front of Vander Veer, Byers, Crapo and Mike Bray.
Bombers
Abella took advantage of a lap-13 restart to grab the lead in the bomber feature. Mike Rose made a late run at the leader and tried to pin him behind the lapped car of Chuck Hackbarth but couldn”t do it. Abella took the checkered flag in front of Mike Rose, Roman Rose, Jon Waner and Robert Byers.
Roman Rose registered his third straight fast time during qualifying (14.517).
Racing resumes this Saturday with the bombers, street stocks, modifieds and Late Models.
