GLENHAVEN — A head-on collision that caused minor-to-major injuries to three people Tuesday on Highway 20 was likely the result of a driver falling asleep at the wheel, CHP said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., 67-year-old Stephen Raetz of Yuba City was heading eastbound when his 2005 Ford Taurus crossed the double yellow lines and struck a 1993 Toyota Corolla driven by 69-year-old Samuel Miller of Upper Lake.

According to a preliminary investigation conducted by CHP, Raetz may have fallen asleep at the wheel just before the accident occurred.

Raetz was accompanied by one passenger, Jackie Raetz, 62, who suffered major, non-life threatening injuries. She was taken by REACH air ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Stephen Raetz suffered minor injuries but was not transported. CHP Officer Efrain Cortez is investigating the collision, CHP said.

Miller was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital by Northshore Fire ambulance for treatment of minor to moderate injuries sustained in the crash.
