Lakeshore Drive at Olympic was busy Monday morning with road construction and the demolition of the Austin Resort building coinciding. While Central Valley Paving & Engineering worked on a stretch of road between Olympic Drive and Division Avenue, Epidendio Construction was busy tearing down the dilapidated building across from City Hall.

Demolition of the Austin Resort building has been on the city”s itinerary for several years. With the County of Lake”s recent decision to waive dump fees associated with the demolition, the city has been able to move forward with the project.

According to Public Works Supervisor Doug Herron, demolition is expected to take about two or three days because the debris must be separated for recycling purposes and general disposal. He said the demolition should be complete by midweek.

Epidendio, a local construction company out of Lower Lake, was awarded the bid for the demolition at $15,000.

The city”s road rehabilitation project is moving along. The project completion date has been moved up from August to May 30. Central Valley Paving & Engineering will continue grinding out the roadways through this week. The overlay process is expected to begin on Monday. After that workers will be digging out manhole covers and then they will move on to striping the roads.

The Burns Valley Sidewalk project is also coming along. Utility poles were being moved on Tuesday morning. The project consists of installing a six-foot wide pedestrian walk way along the west side of Burns Valley Road between Safeway and the Clearlake Senior/Community Center.
